Are you prone to those pesky little things called blackheads? Nothing annoys us more than blackheads and we are on a crusade to stop them!
Blackheads are basically whiteheads that are mixed with all that dirt and oil our faces are subjected to every day – that's what gives them the dark colour. If your like us and suffer from lots of little ones on your nose, squeezing them gets you absolutely nowhere – it just hurts, makes you look like Rudolf and you have to do it every hour to even make an impact. We do not have time for that!
Instead, we turned to finding an easier solution that we knew we could stick with to combat these annoying little guys. We've got a few small & easy tips that require little to no energy and won't break the bank.
1. Always wash your face after exercise!
This is so important – when you exercise your body produces all kinds of fluids and you do not want these on your face and clogging your pores. You need to get all that dirt, oil and seat off stat. We'd recommend taking a towel with you to your gym sesh (no matter what it is – yoga, boxing, HIIT) so that you can wipe your face as soon as your session is done.
2. Never put fake tan on your face.
Oh how we wish we knew this when we were 16... Fake tan was literally life and to some respect, still plays a big part in our life. However, it is so so so bad to put this stuff on your face.It clogs your pores and is just a nightmare if you are wanting to reduce blackheads. Also, your pores open up while you're sleeping so if you sleep with your tan on overnight you are literally soaking chemicals into your face.
3. Use Salicylic Acid.
This is our favourite ingredient for combating blackheads. You can use a gentle face wash with Salicylic Acid or a product with a higher percentae of the ingredient – whichever you choose, this ingredient helps to unclog your pores by encouraging skin-cell turnover.
We're loving The Ordinary's Salicylic Acid 2%!
4. Blackhead nose strips.
We feel everyone already knows about these unless you've been living under a rock – but they are such a good tool to use. There is some debate about if these strips pull too much off your skin and actually worsen the problem, but our experience has been nothing but positive. Use them once a week after your cleanser and before your toner.
We recommend Biore Charcoal Cleansing Strips! Link below :)
5. Face peels.
A gentle face peel works wonders & feels oh so good. We've been using Skinstitut Enzymatic Micro Peel and loving it. You can feel the tingle when you put it on and when you wash it off, your skin feels smooth, clean and your skin tone looks much more even. Once a week, apply a thin layer all over your face, let it sit for 5 – 15 minutes (or overnight if you want) and then rinse off. You can thank us later ;)
The above 5 steps will help you to combat blackheads easily at home without having to take a small loan. However, there are lots of different treatments out there you can try. Microdermabrasion is a great treatment but it is about $90 a session and you need 6 – 12 depending on your skin. We'd definitely recommend this though if you want to go that step further!
